Pen's Group's story

Pen is a 47-year-old married mother who lives in a rural village in Battambang province’s Moung Russey district. She earns a living by running a small business at home as a shoemaker. She has been in this business for more than 10 years and earns around 40,000 KHR per day to meet her family’s needs. Pen has five children, one of whom is dependent on her and still in school. Lack of working capital to support her business is her main challenge.

Pen’s group consists of two female members who have been with VisionFund for four cycles. She has successfully paid back the past loans which have helped her relieve her family’s burden and improved her living condition. Now she is leading her group in asking for a loan. Pen, who is the leader, will use her portion to buy material for producing shoes such as plastic and thread etc. She hopes that this loan will enable her to earn more income from her current business so as to make a better living and keep her children in school.
