A loan of $600 helped to buy materials such as plywood, knives, and paints so that she can continue making Popsicle sticks.

Melita's story

Melita is 39 years old and she is a hard-working and entrepreneurial woman that strives to get ahead. She is married to Francisco who is a government employee. They have three children that are 18, 5, and 3 years old. They live in their own home that they worked very hard to buy.

Malita makes Popsicle sticks. Each week a man comes to her home and brings the materials she needs, such as plywood, paint, and other items, so that she can create these sticks. She makes them manually, one-by-one. The ones that are used for ice cream are not painted, however, there are bigger ones that are painted and are used for teaching or as decoration. When she has the required quantity, she sends her products in bags to other cities and receives payment. She has been working in this business for 2 years and works with the help of her sister.

She likes her work because it enables her to earn an income so that she can help pay her family's expenses. She is happy because her business is growing because of all of her hard work. She is always thinking about how to improve the quality of life for her children. With this loan of 1500 nuevos soles, she will be able to buy the necessary materials such as plywood, knives, and paints so that she can continue making Popsicle sticks.
