A loan of $2,050 helped a member to pay school/college fees for his children.

Augustine C.'s Group's story

Pictured here are teachers from one of the primary schools in Binkolo village, near Makeni city in northern Sierra Leone. This group of teachers has come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org, to apply for a loan of 8,800,000 SLL (Sierra Leone leones) in order to meet their immediate financial challenges. At the end of each month, they can repay the loan using their salaries. It is their school’s bursar who is directly responsible for doing the deductions and making the repayments on their behalf.

Augustine is the leader of this group. The 56-year-old is married to a farmer, and the couple has seven children – three in primary school, three in secondary and one in college. A native of Binkolo village, Augustine is a head teacher at the school and has served in this profession for 33 years now. Augustine has requested this loan in order to pay school/college fees for his children.
