A loan of $600 helped a member to buy bread-baking materials like flour, yeast, and sugar in bulk.

Tawopaneh Group's story

Pictured here is the “Tawopaneh” group from Makeni, a city in northern Sierra Leone. They are all local entrepreneurs who have come to SMT, a Kiva partner, to apply for a loan of SLL 500,000 for each. With the help of this loan, they will be able to expand their businesses, make more sales, and consequently improve their living conditions.

Ibrahim, age 35, is the leader of this group. His wife works as a trader of goods, and they have three children, all of whom are attending primary schools. Ibrahim bakes and sells bread to earn an income, and he has been engaged in his business for 15 years now. With his share of this loan, he is going to buy bread-baking materials like flour, yeast, and sugar in large quantities in order to be able to bake greater quantities of breads to offer for sale.
