Benkadi Group

The members of the group Benkadi average 34 years of age and three children each, all living in traditional families in the Heremakono Nord district of Bougouni City. The women know one another through ties of community, friendship, and commerce. To bolster their financial capacity, so as to do better business, they joined the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso and are now on their first loan. This group of women does commerce in fabrics, soft drinks, and food service.

Maïmouna, who is the only one seated in front in the photo, works in food service. She intends to use her loan to purchase 200 kg of millet, a bag of sugar, some milk daily in the villages neighboring Bougouni and in Boubouni City. She makes her sales retail (dishes of food) at the market and at home. She accepts cash or credit from a customer base composed of men and women.

She envisions making an average monthly profit of 30,000 francs CFA that will be used for: investing in her business, covering healthcare costs, and repaying the loan.

Les membres du groupe Benkadi qui ont une moyenne d’âge de 34 ans et 3 enfants vivent toutes dans des familles traditionnelles dans le quartier Heremakono Nord de la ville de Bougouni.
Elles se sont connues à travers des liens de voisinage, d’amitié et de commerce. Pour renforcer leur capacité financière afin de mieux faire leur commerce, elles adhérent à l’institution de microfinance Soro Yiriwaso avec laquelle elles sont à leur premier prêt. Ce groupe de femmes fait le commerce de tissus, de boissons non alcoolisée et de la restauration.
Maïmouna, qui est la seule assise devant fait de la restauration. Elle compte acheter avec son prêt, 200 kilos de mil, 1 sac de sucre et quotidiennement du lait dans les villages voisins de Bougouni et à Bougouni ville. Elle effectue ses ventes (plats alimentaires) au marché et à domicile, en détail au comptant et à crédit à une clientèle composée d’hommes et de femmes.
Elle envisage réaliser un bénéfice mensuel moyen de 30.000FCFA qui sera investi dans les activités, pour les frais de santé et rembourser le prêt.

Soro Yiriwaso is a microfinance institution that works primarily in rural and semi-urban areas of Mali to provide underprivileged communities with access to financial services.The organization facilitates access for disadvantaged clients, particularly women, to new resources and services, fostering solidarity and cooperation among its clients. Kiva lenders’ funds will enable Soro Yiriwaso to expand its outreach and target even more underserved Malians involved in business and agriculture.

The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee.
