A loan of $425 helped a member to purchase food supplies for her restaurant.

Benkadi Group's story

The members of the group Benkadi average 34 years of age and three children each, all living in traditional families in the Heremakono Nord district of Bougouni City. The women know one another through ties of community, friendship, and commerce. To bolster their financial capacity, so as to do better business, they joined the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso and are now on their first loan. This group of women does commerce in fabrics, soft drinks, and food service.

Maïmouna, who is the only one seated in front in the photo, works in food service. She intends to use her loan to purchase 200 kg of millet, a bag of sugar, some milk daily in the villages neighboring Bougouni and in Boubouni City. She makes her sales retail (dishes of food) at the market and at home. She accepts cash or credit from a customer base composed of men and women.

She envisions making an average monthly profit of 30,000 francs CFA that will be used for: investing in her business, covering healthcare costs, and repaying the loan.
