A loan of $400 helped to buy rice, sugar, eggs, milk and other products on a wholesale basis at lower prices.

Joana's story

Joana, age 22, is a hard-working woman with a great desire to get ahead. She is single, but she has 2 beautiful children, aged 7 and 5, respectively, whom she loves very much. Together with them she lives in her mother's house, along with her siblings.

Joana's work is selling groceries. For this purpose she has a small store set up in her house, where she serves her customers, who are mostly her neighbors. She started only one year ago, due to the need to have an income to allow her to supply the basic necessities to her children. Thankfully she was able to have access to a loan, which helped her to assemble the working capital she needed to set up ber business. With time, she has been able to build up her customer base.

She likes her business because it allows her to be at home and have the tranquility she needs to take care of her small children. At the same time, she can use her free moments on other activities which bring her some extra money. She has plans to keep growing and expanding her store, offering her customers a greater variety of items that they want. This is her first loan with MFP, and she feels grateful for the financial help they provide to carry out her plans. She also feels happy with her communal bank, since she knows the members and she considers them responsible people with a sense of solidarity.

The amount she is requesting, 1000 new soles, will be invested in buying rice, sugar, eggs, milk and other products on a wholesale basis, seeking lower prices so that she can obtain greater earnings.
