A loan of $2,400 helped to improve her work area by creating a bigger space and by decorating it.

Talar's story

Talar is a 19-year-old Iraqi woman. She is married and a mother of one. With limited career options due to cultural restrictions and domestic constraints, Talar is one of many Iraqi women who work from home, using her sewing skills to generate some income and participate in meeting the financial needs of her family.

Talar has two years' experience with her small, home-based sewing and tailoring business and she enjoys making custom order dresses and other small fabric household items. She would like to improve her work area by creating a bigger space and would like to decorate it with creative and useful items to help her customers and herself think more creatively about their sewing projects.

To pay for the improvement works Talar took a loan from Relief International Microfinance Iraq in the amount of 2400 USD.

Talar is under 30 and as such qualifies for a youth loan.

Based on the political and social challenges of lending in Iraq, personally identifiable information about this borrower has been altered for her protection. RI-Iraq appreciates Kiva lenders' consideration of these challenges and encourages lenders to continue their support for Iraqi borrowers.
