A loan of $600 helped to buy organic fertilizer and potato and olluco seeds.

Teofila's story

Teófila, 53, is married to Víctor with whom she has five children but only lives with the three youngest ones who are 21, 17, and 15 years of age in her own house located in a rural district. She’s worked in agriculture since she was 22-years-old and with this vast experience grows potatoes and ‘ollucos’ (Andean tubers). She’s been working in the fields since she was very young and in all this time has managed to acquire thanks to her effort her own agricultural fields, her small house and succeeded in raising her children who now help her care for her potato, pea and other vegetable crops. What she likes best about her work is being able to spend most of her time with her family. Now, she will be taking care of the potato and olluco crops alone but will hire laborers to help her. Teófila hopes with this coordinated work to continue striving in her enterprise until she gets enough money to buy more farmland. She needs your help to buy seeds, pay staff and to buy fertilizer. This will be MFP loan #9 and she gives her word that she’ll be punctual with her monthly installment payments. She belongs to the “Mirando un futuro mejor” (Looking at a better future) communal bank and feels good being part of such a solid group. She will be able to use the 1,500 soles to buy organic fertilizer and seeds for tubers like potatoes and olluco.
