A loan of $4,575 helped a member to buy pajamas for her business.

Las Profes (Cuenca) Group's story

The “Las Profes” communal bank is made up of seven ladies and one gentleman who are mostly teachers but also work in different businesses. All of the group’s members have great charisma, are happy and are always looking for a reason to smile. They live in parts of Cuenca, a city of modern and colonial agriculture, and a World Heritage site since December of 1999. Its people maintain their cultures and traditions.

María Alexandra is one of the members receiving her fourth loan with her friends and colleagues in the communal bank. She lives in the Totoracocha neighborhood of Cuenca and she is a very happy friendly lady.

María Alexandra is 27 years old, married and has an eight year old son who attends school in the city. Her husband is a professional graphic designer. They don’t have a home of their own, but live with a relative.

She is a hardworking and enterprising woman who works in various activities, one of which is selling pajamas. She’s been doing this for 10 years. She also works in the print shop with her husband and has been a professional teacher for three years.

She will use the money from this loan to buy pajamas to continue her business.

Her dream is to have her own school.
