A loan of $4,750 helped a member to purchase merchandise and a used Overlock sewing machine.

Nuevo Horizonte Angostura Group's story

This communal bank is called “Nuevo Horizante de Angostura”. It is composed of 17 entrepreneurs who work in various fields, among which are: selling cakes, clothing sales, selling plastic products, selling beauty products, and services, among others. All of them live in the city of Rancagua.

Karina, a member of the communal bank, is in the photo standing in the second row and second from the right. She is wearing a green shirt; her hair is light brown and she wears it long and braided.

She has worked in tailoring for 1 year. She says that she works during the day in her house. She has a small shop located in the living room of her house. She takes orders from her customers, relatives, and does deliveries.

She purchases the merchandise and supplies that she needs to make blankets and curtains in the city of Santiago, as she can find a wide variety of merchandise and colors at a low cost, and therefore it’s economically convenient.

With the loan, she will buy merchandise and a used Overlock sewing machine.

One of Karina’s goals is to build a room, relocate her shop as is fitting and clear out her living room, and therefore attend to her customers in a more satisfactory way.

Karina lives with her husband and three children ages 12, 8, and 1 years. Her dreams on a work level are to believe in her business in order to generate more income and give her children a better educational future. She is very happy and grateful for the opportunity offered by Fondo Esperanza, since it will allow her to invest in her business.

With respect to the communal bank group which she is a part of, she says that within it, there exists very good communication. On the other hand, the trainings have helped her to learn new sales and bookkeeping strategies.

Rancagua belongs to the Libertador Bernardo O’Higgins region. It’s a modern city that regulates the main agricultural production and exportation process for fruit and wine grapes in Chile. It is also a mining city, due to the fact that in its mountain range is found the largest subterranean mine in the world, “El Teniente,” with 4,500 kilometers of tunnels.
