Saima's Group
In this Group: Saima, Rasheeda, Shehnaz, Adeeba, Bushra, Sajida
Saima is 28 years old and a hardworking and independent woman. She lives in Punjab, Pakistan, with her husband, son and two daughters. Her husband is a taxi driver but his income is not enough to meet the household expenses. Since 2008, Saima has been running a beauty salon in her house. Currently she wants to purchase a variety of cosmetic products like makeup kits, eye shadows, hair products, etc. for her beauty salon.

For that reason, Saima, as a member of a six-person lending group, has requested a loan from Kiva's partner BRAC Pakistan. On getting a profit, first of all she will repay the loan amount to Kiva, and then she wants to build a new room onto the salon, as the space in the salon is much too congested. She hopes that her business grows more, and she is very thankful to both Brac and Kiva.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
