Leon, Nicaragua / Retail

A loan of $500 helped to buy bundles of clothes, toys and school supplies such as erasers, pencils and notebooks.

Maria Mercedes's story

Maria, 26, is from León. She is married and has one child. She is a merchant who sells clothes and stuffed animals in the city of León. She has been in this business for two years. She has a university degree in international relations.

At the age of 24, she started in the merchant business as a street vendor selling clothes, toys and school supplies. This is her first business. She depends on the support from her mom and her sisters.

She's requesting the loan in order to buy bundles of clothing, toys and school supplies such as erasers, pencils and notebooks.

She believes this loan will help her to buy items to sell that she still does not have. Her idea is to increase her sales and have her own general store.

Her future plans are to improve the infrastructure of her house in order to give her business a better look.
