A loan of $1,000 helped buy sacks of organic fertilizer as well as potato, pea, and gladioli flower seeds.

Julia's story

Julia is 45 years old and married to 53-year old Enrique. They have five children but only two still live with them: 23- year old Aime and 16-year old Katy. The four of them live in their own house located in a rural area.

Julia is a special woman. She is very happy to have successfully launched her children. She runs a small store in her house selling groceries and other basic supplies to the people in her neighbourhood. This brings in extra money since farming, a job she's had for ten years, is profitable except in times of drought. Then there are only losses, but income from the store helps overcome the problem.

Julia's main crops are peas, potatoes, and gladioli. After each harvest she sells them in the town's central market. During the farming season she travels to the capital where the profit is greater.

She is now planning to buy her own land. This month is a crucial time for planting the next crop of potatoes and vegetables, so Julia is seeking a loan to buy the seeds. This is her fifth loan with MFP and as a member of her community bank "las Truchitas de Yaroka”. She says that she feels she's on the right path and with help she can make progress.

She plans to spend the money buying several sacks of organic fertilizer as well as potato, pea, and gladioli flower seeds.
