A loan of $875 helped to buy animals.

Rosa Elvira's story

Rosa has been a member of the “Mujeres de Chilcatotoras” communal bank. She lives in the Chilcatotoras communal bank, part of the Tarqui parish in Cuenca. This parish is known for its green pastures and inspirational landscapes. The people here maintain their traditions and culture. They raise livestock and farm.

Rosa is 43 years old, married and has six children, ages 22, 19, 17, 14, 11, and 7. Her oldest son is married and lives on his own. Two of her children work and help her financially; two attend high school; and one studies at the local school.

Rosa spends most of her time doing housework and caring for her children, but in order to help with the household finances she raises and sells Guinea pigs, chickens, pigs, and livestock. She also farms and what she harvests is for personal consumption in her home.

She will use the money from this loan to invest in Guinea pigs, chickens, and schoolbooks for her children. Her dream is to have a stall in the market so she can sell her animals.
