A loan of $550 helped to buy animals, feed, and compost.

María Florinda's story

Maria is an active member of the Mujeres de Chilcatotoras communal bank. This lovely group was formed three years ago, along with the ties of friendship among all the members. She lives in the Chilcatotoras sector, which is part of the Tarqui parish in Cuenca. This parish is known for its green pastures and inspirational landscapes. The people here maintain their traditions and culture. They raise livestock and farm.

Maria is 51 years old, a widow, and has seven children, ages 27, 25, 23, 22, 20, 18 and 15. Her oldest daughter is married and on her own. Her three sons work and help her financially. Two of them help with the household chores. Only one son attends a local school.

Maria works from home. Since she lives in the country, she raises livestock and sells milk to milk distributors. She raises Guinea pigs, and chickens and sells them in her community. She also harvests her fields for consumption in her home, which she inherited.

She will use the money from this loan to buy Guinea pigs, chickens, animal feed, and compost for her pastures.

Her dream is to have a stall in the market so she can sell her animals.
