Doña Lorena has been working in the collection department of an office for 3 years. She has two children, one of them studying at university and the other attending secondary school, so she works to cover all her household expenses. She also has her own business of apartment rentals and plans to use this new loan to make improvements in the apartments and provide a better service to her clients. She needs to buy blocks, cement, iron and sand to make the concrete walls (now made of wood), and ceramic, ceiling materials and zinc layers to change the ceilings. All of this is possible thanks to the support of her husband, who is self-employed and works in construction. This support allows her to repay her loans, for which she's very grateful to the financial institution and Kiva.

About Housing Loans
Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
