A loan of $300 helped a member to stock more fresh food such as bananas and beans for cooking in her restaurant.

Flavia's Group's story

Flavia's group is comprised of three hard-working women. Flavia is 22 years old, and lives in the town of Mubende in the Mubende region of Uganda. For the past year, Flavia has been working hard to manage her restaurant.

To help expand her business, Flavia has requested a loan of 200,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to stock more fresh food, such as bananas and beans, for her restaurant. This will help Flavia generate greater profits, pay her house rent, and take good care of herself.

Flavia hopes that in the future she will be able to start up another business, such as rearing domestic animals.

Flavia is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
