A loan of $375 helped a member to pay the wages of farm laborers.

Sareout's Group's story

Sareout resides in a rural area of Moung Russey District in Cambodia’s Battambang Province. He is 29 years of age and married with two dependent kids, one of whom is too young for school, while the other one is currently in school. To make a living, Sareout and his wife have been farming rice and planting beans so tirelessly for eight years, earning around 24,000 riels (KHR). After deducting the daily costs of living, they save approximately 18,000 KHR for future needs.

Sareout, a second-time borrower, is leading a group whose other member is just a first-time borrower with Kiva’s partner VisionFund. They are taking out a loan in the amount of 1,000,000 KHR and 500,000 KHR respectively. The group leader, Sareout, states that with the previous loan he was able to improve the living conditions of his family. This time, he will use his requested loan portion to pay the wages of his farm laborers. With the help of his loan, Sareout highly believes that he will be able to harvest rice and beans on time.
