A loan of $1,100 helped to buy chickens and animal feed.

Ana Lourdes's story

Ana is making her fourth loan with the communal bank Tres de Noviembre, a communal bank which has brought about good friends and strengthened the ties of friendship among each of the members. She lives in the parish of Cumbe in Cuenca, a place with a lot of vegetation and one can admire the beauty of the countryside. Its architecture is a mixture of modern and old. Its people work in animal husbandry, agriculture and many work in the city in various activities.

Ana is 34 years old, married and has 4 children who are 12, 10, 8 and 6 years old. Her oldest child is a school student and her three youngest go to a local little school. Her husband works as a mason, and they own their own house where they live.

Ana takes care of the household chores, and as she lives in the country she works raising pigs, chickens, and guinea pigs. She also cultivates her land and the harvest is for household consumption and if she has any surplus she sells it. Sometimes she is asked to work on somebody else’s farm.

The new loan she is asking for is to buy chickens and animal feed for all the animals.

Her goal is to enlarge her chicken house, in order to have larger quarters for breeding.
