A loan of $1,975 helped a member to pay school fees for her children.

Mohamed's Group's story

Pictured above are school teachers in Koidu, a city in eastern Sierra Leone. This group of teachers has come to Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva.org, based in Makeni, in northern Sierra Leone, to request a loan of SLL 8,500,000 for the entire group. With the help of this loan, this group of able and dedicated teachers will be able to meet their immediate financial challenges. At the end of each month, they will repay the loan, using their monthly salaries. It is their school’s bursar who is directly responsible for doing the deductions and making the repayments on their behalf. Sia (pictured in the middle) is the featured leader of this group. The 40-year-old is a native of Kayima, in eastern Sierra Leone. She is married to a teacher and the couple has three children who are attending secondary schools. Sia has served in the teaching profession for 12 years now. She has requested this loan in order to pay school fees for her children.
