Francis K.'s Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva.org based in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone, is very pleased to present to you this group of primary school teachers from Koidu, a city in eastern Sierra Leone.

These hardworking and dedicated teachers have come to SMT to request a loan of 15,100,000 for the entire group. With this loan, each will be able to solve his immediate financial challenges and, at the end of each month, he will repay the loan using his monthly salary. It is their school’s bursar who is directly responsible for doing the deductions and making the repayments on their behalf.

Francis (who is pictured on the left) is the featured leader of this group. A native of Magbema in eastern Sierra Leone, the 54-year-old is married to a housewife. The couple has seven children who are attending primary and secondary schools. Francis has served in the teaching profession for 27 years now.
