A loan of $1,250 helped a member to pay his college fees.

Alie Kamara's Group's story

Pictured above are teachers in Koidu, a city in eastern Sierra Leone. This group of teachers has come to SMT, a partner of the Kiva.org base in Makeni in northern Sierra Leone, in order to apply for a loan of 5,400,000.00 Leones for the entire team. With the help of this loan, they will be able to meet their immediate financial challenges and at the end of each month, they can repay the loan using their monthly salaries. It is their school’s bursar who is directly responsible for doing the deductions and making the repayments on their behalf.

Mohamed, age 29, is the leader of this group. He is a native of Yormandu in eastern Sierra Leone. Mohamed and his wife have two children, both of whom are attending primary school. Mohamed has served in the teaching profession for six years now and is pursuing further studies in college. He has requested this loan in order to pay his college fees.
