A loan of $550 helped to buy clothing.

Leonela Jajaira's story

Leonela is receiving her first loan as a member of the El Arenal communal bank. She was invited by a friend to become a member of this group. She lives in the community of Misicata, which belongs to Baños parish and is located eight kilometers west of Cuenca, 15 minutes from that city's historic center. Baños is a thriving tourist center, thanks to the healing properties of thermal springs fed by the adjacent mountains, its cuisine, and the variety of places to enjoy nature. The people are friendly, warm-hearted, and still maintain the culture and traditions of their people.

Leonela is 28 years old, in a common-law marriage, and has five children. Her oldest daughter is in high school and her next three children study at a local school. Her youngest son is at home. Her husband is a merchant. They do not have their own house, so they rent.

Leonela, along with her husband, has been selling clothing for 12 years. They work from Sunday to Sunday, without a fixed schedule. This work allows Leonela to be at home with her children.

She is going to invest this loan in the purchase of clothing, so that she can have better variety and styles for her customers.
