A loan of $1,200 helped to buy seedlings.

Aydee's story

Aydeé, 30, enjoys Yuri’s company who at the age of 38 has managed to establish a very prosperous home. She’s the mother of little Britney, 9, who has become the main motivator for her hard work. She owns an adobe house and her occupation is growing organic cocoa beans considered one of the most profitable products in her location. She’s been in this activity for five years doing it with Yuri’s support; she negotiates everything with respect to production with him and they constantly provide the manpower thus saving the cost of hiring personnel and increasing their net profits.

She considers this to be a very profitable activity because the cocoa bean clusters currently command a very good price which makes them one of the most widely cultivated crops at the moment. Sometimes rain at dawn keeps her from being able to do her work normally and she must postpone it until the next day. She currently owns three ‘cuadras’ [unit of land measurement] planted with cocoa bean trees that are past their prime and they need to be replaced with grafts or they need to be pruned back and replaced with seedlings.

Her future plan points is aimed at building a new dwelling to start a new business of her own with the intention of providing her little girl with more attention. She wants to have 3,000 new soles to buy seedlings to replace the three cuadras of old cocoa bean trees. In addition to this, she wants to buy sacks of organic manure to optimize production.
