A loan of $925 helped to buy more school-going shoes for resale.

Florence's story

Florence is 31 years old and lives in the town of Kisekende in the Mubende region of Uganda. She is married and has five children with four of them currently in school. For the past five years, Florence has been working hard to manage her small shoe business.

To help expand her business, Florence has requested a loan of 2,500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more school-going shoes for resale, and will help Florence to generate greater profits and pay half the school fees for her children. Florence hopes that in the future she will be able to own a residential house.

Florence is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Florence who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
