A loan of $675 helped to buy cosmetics.

Clara Inela's story

Clara has been at "Las Gaviotas" (The Seagulls) communal bank for 2 years. She is a friendly, kind and determined woman who likes the communal bank because of the friendship and support that exists in the group. She lives on the outskirts of the Baños parish which can be found eight kilometres to the west of Cuenca, 15 minutes from the historic centre of the city.

The healing properties of the thermal springs that come out of the adjacent mountains have made Baños a prosperous tourist centre. Other attractions include the local food, the various places where nature can be enjoyed, and the kind warm-hearted people who still maintain the traditions and culture of the towns.

Clara is 49 years old and is a single mother of 5. Three of her sons are married and live independently. Her youngest two sons study: one in a high school and the other in a school in the city. They don't have their own house and so rent.

Clara is an entrepreneurial woman proved by the fact that she has got her children ahead with sacrifice and hard work. She has worked as a medical consultant's assistant for many years. She also sells various makes of cosmetics. She is going to invest the loan in buying cosmetics to continue building her business. Her aim is to study beauty and have her own salon.
