United Brothers Group's story

Meet the members of the “United Brothers” group from Kenema, a city in eastern Sierra Leone. They are all local entrepreneurs who have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva, to apply for a loan of 500,000 SLL apiece. With the help of this loan, they will be able to expand their respective businesses, make more sales and consequently improve their living conditions.

Amadu is the leader of this group. The 24-year-old is single with no children. For a number of years now, Amadu has been selling bowls. Though capital is low, Amadu has been able to make a living out of his bowl business. With the help of this loan, however, his capital will increase a bit, enabling him to buy a larger quantity of bowls to add to his current stock. In this way, he will consequently achieve his dream of erecting a structure to host his business.
