A loan of $925 helped a member to buy more clothing to sell to her customers.

We Are Here Group's story

In this photo, we see the members of the “We Are Here” loan group. Each member runs a small-scale business located in Kenema, a city in eastern Sierra Leone. They are requesting for a loan for 800,000 Leones for each person in the the group. With the help of this money, they will each be able to improve on the quality and quantity of their businesses.

Mariama leads the group. She is 29 years old and was born in Kenema, where she currently lives with her husband and two children. Her husband is a trader and her children attend school.

Mariama earns a living by selling ready-to-wear items. She has been doing this type of work for many years now and has done a good job of expanding her business and making a lot of improvements in her lifestyle. Though faced with the challenge of low sales, Mariama hopes to become an international businesswoman. She is going to use her share of this loan to buy more clothes to to sell to her customers.
