Enock is a 30-year-old farmer in Kitale county in Kenya where he lives with his wife and four children who are all schooling. He has been in farming for the past four years producing milk, maize and beans which he sells at the local market in his area.
Enock is requesting a 52,000 KES loan from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow from which he will get more milk production and earn extra income. That will help boost his livelihood and be able to use some of the money to educate his children. He hopes to have four dairy cows and be the leading supplier of milk in his area in the next five years.
Pests and diseases are his major challenges in farming.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
