Munkhzaya's story

Munkhzaya is a 40-year-old mother of two children. She lives in a ger, a Mongolian felt tent, in an outer district without basic infrastructure of Ulaanbaatar city, Mongolia. Her specialties are as a builder and chef, but for the past five years, she has supported her family by operating a used clothing business at the largest outdoor market of Mongolia.

When Munkhzaya first began her business, she had 500,000 MNT as working capital. Now, she has about 4,000,000 MNT. Most of her customers are from poor families. Munkhzaya's husband works at local company and her son and daughter attend secondary school and kindergarten.

With her previous loan she sold used clothes, but now she has started to sell cashmere and wool clothes. Munkhzaya is requesting a 3,500,000 MNT loan to purchase a cashmere clothes' sewing machine. In the future, she plans to build a new house on her current plot of land and improve her family's living conditions.
