Christine, age 40, is a farmer in Kitale, Kenya, where she lives with her husband and four children who are all in school. She has been in farming for the past four years. She produces milk and maize, which she sells at the local market in her area.
Christine is requesting a loan of 31,200 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow. She will sell the milk and use the money to pay the school fees for her children as well as boost her livelihood. She aspires to have two more dairy cows in the next five years.
Pests and diseases are her major challenges in farming.
She is grateful to Juhudi Kilimo and Kiva for giving her the loan.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
