A loan of $400 helped to improve his house.

Roman Bartolome's story

Román is 39 years old but has the happiness and desire to get ahead of a young man of 20. His house is located in the district of Santiago, Ica, Peru. Santiago is known for having a warm and welcoming climate, as well as for agricultural development, especially cotton, butter beans, asparagus, and other crops. Román lives with his wife, with whom he has a six-year-old child who is very mischievous and playful. Román loves him very much because he's the most important gift that God has given him. Because of his scarce financial resources Román was only able to study up to the fifth grade of his secondary education, so he works a lot to give his child a good education so he can be better than Román. Every day Román works as a farm laborer. He works about nine hours a day. He believes he's getting ahead with his job because he's very responsible and above all because he's honest. Román's very grateful to the Kiva lenders because thanks to their help he'll be able to make improvements on his house, especially repair the walls, improve the floors, and other repairs. His house is made of adobe and during the summer this type of house suffers cracks. This way he'll be able to give his family a better quality of life, and he'll be able continue striving to make his biggest dream a reality: "To give his son a good education."
