A loan of $400 helped to buy soda and beer.

Teofila Marina's story

Teofila is a 48-year-old woman, but with the charisma and happiness of a 20-year-old. Her home is located in the city of Nazca, in the province of Vista Alegre, known for mining and agriculture. Teofila's very hardworking and learned to earn a living with the sweat of her brow at a very young age because she helped her parents with the household expenses. Because of her limited economic resources she only was able to study to the fifth year of secondary school, but she would like to have studied in the university.

Every day Teofila works in her small business selling groceries, soda, and beer in a space she has set up in her modest home. She works around nine hours a day and can serve up to 15 customers a day. She believes it's going well for her in her business because she's friendly and respectful with the customers and especially because she very much wants to improve every day.

Teofila's very grateful for the support from the Kiva lenders because thanks to their help she'll be able to buy merchandise for her business such as soda wholesale and beer.

This way her business will have what it needs to continue growing and she'll be able to improve her income. She'll continue striving every day to be able to make her biggest dream come true: "To have her own house."
