A loan of $650 helped purchase wholesale toys and novelties with cash.

Lorena Luz's story

Lorena is 24 and lives in the south of the city of Barranquilla with her husband and their 3 children, ages 2 to 8. There she has her own business where she sells novelties, glasses, and costume jewelry. She has four years of experience in this line of work. It was started by her husband, and she has improved it little by little, and has managed to open her own shop. She makes her sales with cash and works 12 hours every day. Her main customers are passersby, neighbors, and referrals that have become regular customers.

She is currently applying for a Kiva loan, her first loan with the Maria Santo Domingo Foundation. She will use it to purchase wholesale toys with cash. Christmas is coming, and sales for those items increases. She wants to take advantage of the demand which happens right at the end of the year. The Kiva loan can help her make a successful investment and increase her income.
