A loan of $400 helped to pay for spare parts and maintenance of their tricycle unit.

Efren's story

This is Efren, 36, a resident of Silang, Cavite, Philippines. He is married to Annaliza, a storekeeper, and he is a father to his children. He, together with his wife, manages their own household while operating the business. At this time, he is working hard to continually provide income for their everyday expenses.

Efren maintains a tricycle business. He owns and drives one unit of tricycle (motorcycle with sidecar) that carries up to four passengers to their destination within the community. He starts working early in the morning and works until late in the evening. There are times when he drives late evenings until the wee hours in order to have a bigger profit. His regular customers are his neighbors and the local community. He earns a minimum of PHP 300 in his transportation business every day.

To help him continue operations of his business, he is requesting PHP 16,000 in his loan. He will be utilizing the loan to buy motorcycle parts for the maintenance of his tricycle unit. He has to maintain his unit in good condition in order to have a regular income for the daily needs of his family.

Efren hopes to have a good life and dreams of expanding his business. He faithfully meets every week with his co-fellowship* members to share stories of his work and to also draw strength and inspiration from the Word of God he studies.

* All CCT community partners / clients are organized into fellowship groups that meet on a weekly basis. A fellowship group is composed of 15 to 30 community partners. The fellowship groups gather each week to study the Word of God, build social capital, and repay microfinance loans.
