Rourng lives in a rural village of the Srey Snom district of Siem Reap province, Cambodia. She is 50 years old and married. She has three children, one of whom is still in school in the local area, while the others help their family’s business. To support her family, she has been farming rice on 5 hectare area of farmland. Having been in this business for 10 years, she is able to earn about 10,000KHR per day and manage to save about 5,000KHR each day after daily expenses.
This is the first microloan for Rourng with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund. Now she is requesting a loan of 2,000,000KHR. She wants to use this loan to pay for labor fees in harvesting rice. She hopes to get a high crop yield from her paddy business so as to make her living conditions better and keep her child in school.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
