A loan of $700 helped a member to spend on the labor costs of harvesting rice.

Ngoun's Group's story

Ngoun, 62, lives with her husband and four children in a village of Battambang province’s Moung Russey district, Cambodia. To make a living, she and her husband have been farming rice on five-hectare of farmland for almost ten years and her husband supplements family’s income by catching fishes in local area. Together, they can earn about 20,000 KHR per day but they can manage to save about 12,000KHR each day after off-setting daily expenses.

Ngoun has been with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund, for four loan cycles and completely paid back the loans while the other member has been for three loan cycles. With the loans from VisionFund, Ngoun has managed to improve her livelihood. She is now leading her group of two to request another loan of 1,400,000KHR each. As the leader, she is going to use her portion to spend on labor costs in harvesting rice. With this loan, Ngoun hopes to increase her family’s income so as to make a better living.
