Beatriz Elena
Beatriz is 37 years old and the mother of three young children. She has been engaged in the dressmaking business since her youth and because of that, worked in this trade as a dressmaker in a company. After becoming pregnant with her first child, she had to retire because she knew that she needed time to devote herself to caring for her baby. Consequently, she decided to work independently from her home and made arrangements with her neighbors. She saved for several years to purchase an overlock sewing machine and began to make blouses that she sells in Medellín’s city center as well as in Rionegro, Colombia. Her greatest dream is to become a successful entrepreneur, expand her company, and generate employment for many families. Her children are her greatest motivation and she always tries to give them the best so that they have a better quality of life. Currently, she is requesting a loan with which she plans to purchase supplies such as fabric, thread, and needles in order to increase her production capacity in the year-end season

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
