Sodia Group's story

The Sodia group consists of five married women and one single woman. The group members average 31 years of age, with three children. They live in nuclear families in the Massablacoura district of the town of Bougouni.

They know each other as neighbors and friends as well as through their businesses. In order to bolster their financial capacity in order to improve their businesses, they have joined the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution and are now on their second loan. This group sells condiments, knitted wear, cereals and cosmetics. Fatouata, the one holding papers in her hand, buys and resells condiments. She plans to use her loan to buy five bags of onions, two boxes of garlic and one box with eggplant (aubergines), cabbage and baobab leaves from wholesalers in Bougouni.

She sells at the market and out of her home, retail, for cash and on credit, to a customer base composed of both men and women.
She plans to achieve an average monthly income of 35,000 West African francs, which will be used to invest in her business and repay her loan.
