A loan of $3,575 helped a member to buy fish for selling.

Lake Side Women's Group's story

The group is located in the outskirts of Kampala near the shores of Lake Victoria. Usually people that live along lake shores are faced with poverty and poor sanitation and generally are at risk of catching several diseases. However, Muhammed, in conjunction with the local area leader, mobilized and sensitized the residents, so that with the help of loans from UGAFODE, those challenges can be overcome.

With the loan, Muhammed believes he will be able to buy fresh fish directly from the fishermen. This will save him the cost of buying from third parties who inflate the prices. This will boost his income, and he will be able to provide enough food for his family and send his four children to better schools, as well as meet the other needs of his family comfortably.

Muhammed is pictured at the back in front of the door. He feels a great achievement, having mobilized his community members a step away from poverty.
