A loan of $500 helped to buy a set of tires and replacement parts for the engine.

Mateo De Jesus's story

Mateo, 53 years old and married, is a resident of the rural municipality Las Banderas. He has made his living buying and selling quarry stone (stones that are used in constructing houses) for the past 25 years. He used to do this working as a driver, but 6 years ago, he bought his own truck with a loan from a financial institution, even though he also had savings.

Today Mateo says that he already owns the truck, because he paid it off 3 years ago. He sells the quarry stones in the capital city, Managua, with the help of a person whom he pays by the day.

Mateo is now applying for this loan to buy a set of tires and replacement parts for his engine. In this way, he hopes to maintain his truck in optimum working condition. As for future plans, he hopes to buy another truck and open new market routes.
