Kellen, a married woman with four children, is a poultry farmer in a small trading centre along the Lyantonde-Masaka road on the high way to the western part of Uganda. She dedicates seven days a week to her poultry since they need a lot of attention. She would like to buy more chicks to feed and sell in a very short time. She is confident that she will have many customers this festive season since there are so many people that travel from the city to the countryside. She will therefore make a lot of profits.

Kellen hopes to expand her poultry farm to over one thousand hens if she gets enough income; the business has sustained her and the family through the years. She is mostly challenged by limited capital and the high prices of poultry feed, not forgetting chicken disease. She is grateful to Ugafode for support throughout the extension of her micro-business from loans. She describes herself as hard working and shrewd.

More information about this loan

This loan is part of UGAFODE's program for clients who live in isolated rural areas with limited access to financial services. Uniquely, UGAFODE focuses its efforts on agricultural areas in Uganda that are over 50 km from their branches, providing loans to both groups and individual borrowers. The organization believes that the risk of offering services to remote clients is outweighed by the benefits to customers and their often underserved communities.
