Meet the members of the Goodness Group from Koidu, in eastern Sierra Leone. They are all local entrepreneurs who have come to Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva, to apply for a loan of SLL 800,000 each (SLL 4,000,000 in total). With the help of this loan, they will be able to expand their respective businesses, make more sales, and consequently improve on their living conditions. Yei is the featured leader of this group. The 55-year-old is married to a motor mechanic and they have three children attending primary school. Yei has been a businesswoman for 20 years. She sells palm oil (the country’s favorite cooking oil), margi (used to give sauce a sweet taste), salt, fish, flour, sugar, etc. With her share of this loan, she is going to buy wholesale, the aforementioned items to add to her current ones.
