Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

Luz Stella's story

Luz Stella is a single mother of two children, ages 11 and 19. She is an enterprising woman who has always searched for ways to earn a living to give her children a better quality of life.

She began working independently by selling merchandise in the municipality of Apartadó, Antioquia, Colombia. Due to her mother's fragile health, she made the decision to move to the municipality of Medellín. One year ago, she set up her store with the savings she had managed to accumulate.

She works every day from 6:30 in the morning until 10:00 at night. One of her greatest advantages is that the competition in this sector is very low, which has allowed her to position her business well.

Her greatest wish is to offer her children a quality education and watch over the well-being of her mother, guaranteeing her a decent life.

Luz is applying for a loan to buy groceries and legumes, in order to have a good stock for the end of the year.
