A loan of $1,475 helped to buy fabric and materials for sewing, supplies and household products.

Bertha Cleotilde's story

The "La Sultana" Communal Bank meets every fifteen days in Jipijapa canton, which is known as "the Sultan of coffee" and is renowned for its extensive cultivation of coffee, which has an unrivaled flavor, its gastronomy, and the warmth of its people.

Señora Bertha lives here. She is 40 years old, married, and has three children aged 20, 10 and 5. The three study at university and school. Her husband is a chauffeur.

Bertha studied dressmaking at a local academy some years ago. Today, she has a small store and sewing workshop in her home. There, she works making all kinds of clothing and selling the products in her store. In addition, at weekends she prepares food for parties or receptions held in the city. As her food is delicious, she has contracts for parties every weekend.

When she doesn't have much dressmaking to do, she travels to other cities in her husband's car to sell her the products from her store. She has been working in these commercial activities for over 12 years.

She will use this new loan to buy fabric and materials for sewing, supplies to prepare food for the receptions, and household products to sell.

Since the beginning, she has been a member of the Communal Bank. She likes it because she set up her business with a loan from this bank.

Her dream is to buy her own car.
