Mirtha's story

Mirtha, 45 years old, is a diligent, hardworking woman with many business ideas and dreams of success. She is with Julio, who is in transportation. They live comfortably together in their own house. Mirtha has a business selling a variety of merchandise, such as clothing, purses, stuffed toys, ornaments and other items, as well as beauty products such as nail polish, face creams, perfumes and so forth. She buys all these products by catalog and then sells them from her home to her neighbors and friends, all of whom are regular customers. She also gets referrals. She started her business more than ten years ago with her own capital, drawn from her savings. She has run the business alone until now. She feels it has been quite profitable based on the income she earns when she sells all the merchandise she has in stock. She says she decided to start her own business to help her husband with household expenses and to have a source of income. She also wanted to have a job and to feel productive. In the future she hopes to able to expand her inventory and see her business grow. This will be her fifth loan from MFP. She hopes to obtain a small loan so that she can meet her objectives. She is committed to making all of her payments on time so that she will have a good credit history. With the sum requested, S/.3,500, she will purchase merchandise such as beauty products and gifts for Christmas and the New Year and expand her inventory. She seeks reasonable prices for her purchases so that she will have higher earnings.
