A loan of $450 helped to buy carrot seeds and fertilizer.

Santos's story

Santos is a 34-year-old farmer. He is married and lives in Sololá. He has six children, three girls and three boys. Only four of them attend school in the community.
Santos cultivates carrots and potato on a rented plot of land a few kilometres away from his home. He learned this work from an uncle, and began working in the fields at a young age. This is now his main source of income.
He started to grow his own crops ten years ago. He saw the possibility of being independent and making his own income cultuvating vegetables. He is requesting a loan of Q 3,500 in order to buy carrot seeds and fertilizer so that he can improve his family's income.
He dreams of purchasing a plot of land so that he won't have to keep renting. He also wants to keep supporting his children and for them to stay in school.
