A loan of $2,425 helped a member to pay college fees for her children.

Mary Hawa P's Group's story

Pictured above are teachers of a technical vocation in Kenema city, in eastern Sierra Leone. This group of teachers has come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org base in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone to request a loan of 10,500,000 SLL for the entire group. With the help of this loan, each of these teachers will be able to meet their immediate financial challenges and at the end of each month, each will repay the loan using their monthly salaries. It is their school’s bursar who is directly responsible for doing the deductions and making the repayments on their behalf.

Mary is the featured leader of this group of teachers. She is 55 years of age. A native of Segbwema, in eastern Sierra Leone. She is married to a teacher and the couple has 6 children – 2 in college and the rest are no longer attending school. Mary has been a teacher for 35 years now. With the help of this loan, Mary is going to pay college fees for her children.
