A loan of $775 helped to buy charcoal.

Loice's story

Loice, a married woman, has five children and 3 dependents. She sells charcoal to meet the needs of her family. She works six days a week. At the beginning she and the family were solely depended on her husband, who is a casual labourer, and his income was not enough to feed and educate the children. She therefore started by buying and selling one bag but is now able to sell over 10 bags in two weeks.

Charcoal is used as fuel by most low income earners because it is affordable compared to gas and electricity. This has improved her standard of living and she hopes to build a modest house out of the profits. She is grateful for the partnership she has with Ugafode because her family can now enjoy a healthy meal and also dress appropriately which was not the case years back. She is determined to keep up the pace which is paying off.
