Abdulai Y's Group's story

In the picture above are teachers from one of the secondary schools in Kenema, a city in eastern Sierra Leone. This group of teachers, Abdulai Y's Group, has come to Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva, to apply for a cumulative loan of SLL 14,300,000. With the help of this loan, this group of teachers will be able to meet their immediate financial challenges. And at the end of each month, their school’s bursar will repay the loan on their behalf. The featured leader of this group is Abdulai. Abdulai is 40 years of age. He is a native of Matrujon, in southern Sierra Leone. He is married to a housewife and the two have three children. Two of the children are in school, one in primary school and one in secondary school. Abdulai has served in the teaching profession for 21 years. He has requested this loan in order to buy house-building materials like sand, cement, rods, etc. for the construction of a dwelling house.
